The Music Box - Creepy Short

I was in the mood for vintage creepy today, so I found some great old black and white spookies and this gem of a stop frame animation puppet show called "The Music Box."

It's Coming and You Know It

It's THAT time of year, and it's getting colder. As Spooky Day approaches, I will get creepier and creepier, and I will share more and more ghost stories and more and more creepy places to visit and become more and more impatient overall. You've seen me like this before.

To get your Halloween/Spook palate wet, here's a link to a nice little gallery of creepy, vintage, Halloween cards: What's the deal with the punkin heads?

... and a creepy story: "The Golden Arm"

I hate to sound so "Mary Sue" but...

...the world is not as bad as you think. People in the world are as bad and as good as you can imagine, and none of us, that's NONE OF US are perfect or right all the time.

We spend a lot of time criticizing and being shocked or offended by those who do not agree with us. We spend very little time accepting each other. I'm including me in this, and I wish I would stop it. I wish we all would.

I just saw a site attacking a church I used to belong to. Oh, I'm still a "Christian," or didn't you know that? No. I don't attend a church. I fully believe the Bible, and I'm a complete and total Jesus Freak who believes in the concept of salvation, the Trinity, and that whole Christ thing. I'm also a Pagan. I think I'm also becoming more zen. I don't belong to a church because of the distance humans can put between myself and God. It's not because churches are evil. It is because I was hurt by my own naivety, and I am very gullible sometimes.

I still accept and love those people. I am a product of being close to other human beings with similar beliefs. We start putting rules and control on one another in that situation. It's in our nature. It seems most of us who cannot take the "Stepford Christian" life any longer either blame the other humans caught up in the same thing and attack them, or they blame God and lose faith in Him.

I was of the second ilk until recently. I cannot explain what changed me because I think it was God, Himself. However, I still hurt for those who are looking for perfection in other humans and blaming those they've left for their imperfections. Acceptance is the thing we all seem to forget about God. It's the thing He's truely great at that we completely botch. That IS Biblical, by the way. See those books about that Jesus guy.

Even Paul - who contributed much to the New Testament - allowed his humanity to get in the way when he pointed to himself as an example and so harshly encouraged the attacking and snubbing of sinners. We are all sinners. If we follow that attitude, no one is left. Jesus kept trying to teach us that. Paul's Stoicism colored his faith, but he was a great example of loyalty to God.

Also, I'm a moderate liberal. Did you know that? I used to say I accepted everyone except those who were narrow minded or prejudiced. Well, I guess that included me where those people were concerned, didn't it? Perhaps, I can accept the people, yet I can reject the actions and attitudes that I find morally repugnant. Embracing people for who they are might just be the key to loving people - all people.

I wonder if I can do it?

At least I can try.

Tea and Wii

I'm finding an odd clash between my two most comforting pursuits of late. In the past, my tea has been my drug of choice. It replaced my smoking, it required repeated trips to the Asian grocery store and brave adventures for my tastebuds. Who knew artichoke tea would taste like chocolate? Since when are mushrooms "intense" in flavor? I used to choose a tea, make a pot, and snuggle into my fuzzy, crushed velvet, orange chair in front of the computer and blog about whatever was on my mind or wander off into the escape of one of my gleefully childish computer games.

It's all over now.

Since I got addicted to the Wii, my addiction to the tea is not compatible. Has anyone been able to Wii and drink anything? Ever? My tea gets cold, or my Wii game runs amok in the short second it takes to pause and take a sip.

And what's with the Wii 'My Sims' game? I've just spent an hour letting my tea get cold while I redecorate my sims' house, cook spaghetti for him, and clean his house. Meanwhile, my house is filthy, I still haven't made lunch, and I need more tea. Is this game a practical joke?

Ready? SET GO!

This is adorable! Ready... 'SET GO!'

Watch her try to make the same noises as her daddy at the end. LOL!

A Little Zen Moment

Aw, timid widdle spring

Yes, yes, you do have to arrive at such a turbulent time. We hear you concerns, Fair One. We do.

What if he's angry, the wind from the south? What if he wants us somewhere where we aren't, anywhere but where we are? What if he pushes us? Already we have arrived too early. It is February still, no time for flowers and greening things. We have no right to request warmer, softer rainfalls between orchestras of thunder clash grand syphonies announcing the coming of rebirth, freedom, and all those colors.

Yet it is green, and it smells green. Here it even feels green. The air tastes green and new and wet and Spring bends her neck against the gush of the winter wind who would move her in and himself out, but he always holds on so tightly that it feels as if he is about to just take her with him.

Spring screams with her thunder, her lightening, her stormy rage, and winter fights back, and thus the tornado is born.

Can no one just be polite enough to say "Excuse me. Just passing through.' and that'd be it.

Film Review - Friday The 13th

Tonight, a friend and I saw the new "Friday the 13th," aka, "Don't f*ck with Jason's Weed."

Yes, it was a very, very violent movie. Let's move on. Apparently, there are two rules to follow when camping in the woods near the old Camp Crystal Lake. 1) Do not f*ck with Jason's weed, and 2) Do no f*ck with Jason's weed.

Many of the characters in this movie were actually funny, endearing, charming, and loveable. That's a nice change for a horror movie, and it makes it harder to watch them go out into the woods alone knowing that means it's their turn to get the ax, er... the machete, I mean. Don't get me wrong. There are still the abudance of jerks to see offed by our ski mask wearing hero, as usual. True to form, they are just as sterotypical as ever.

My favorite character action in this remake/sequel/whatever was the use of a wok as a sheild. Adorable. Be warned, there is a lot of drive-in movie style nudity, in case you're not into mixing bare breasts with your violence, and the sex scenes are graphic enough to push this out of the rating it skinned into.

This is, however, another one of the great torture horror films of late. Deaths aren't always fast, and one scene is so drawn out that even I had to finally look away.

If you're a fan of the original and first 13th, then you will most likely enjoy this one. In my opinion, it was made in the spirit of the old one. Camp Crystal Lake lives on.

Bored

I'm using Google Earth to search all of Afghanistan for Bin Laden. I think that he might be the dude spray painting "Mine's Bigger" on the Minaret of Jam.

Stop it.

Someone explain to me why the media is already on a feeding frenzy re: Obama's first 15 minutes in office? The bill hasn't even been signed yet, and already the buzz is salivating for it's failure and driving down the Dow in the meantime! Are people TRYING to cause crisis? It's like failure is so much more interesting than success that we have to try desperately to literally make it happen.

I do love watching him navigate these waters, though. He never does what they predict. He just keeps on being real and being reasonable.

Today, on CSPAN the government took a break from the debates over the bill. On the screen it read "Session in Recess for President's Day Break." On another live channel, Obama was in Florida at a "Town Meeting" addressing the crowd regarding layoffs and spelling out in plain English what was going to be in the bill for them.

Oh, okay. He forced you guys to take a break from the posturing and fighting so he could go get some real work done. Why didn't you just say so?

It's no wonder his approval rating is still far far higher than congress.

I just loved it during his address the other night when a reporter implied that he was not being as bipartisan as he had promised. Prez Obama was direct about the opposition he is getting from the Republicans when he attempts to reach out to them. His promise to be transparent will not just be extended to his own actions. Looks like he's going to call people out on their bullshit.

God, it's just so nice to see someone really do what they promise and mean what they say.

Thought for the day

Flowers are essentially tarts; prostitutes for the bees.
